Postdoc - Medicinal Chemistry

Role
Independently design and implement complex synthetic routes to yield novel, bioactive small molecules to support and drive Mannin’s drug discovery efforts.

Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Develop synthetic routes for bioactive small molecules.
  • Execute a broad variety of modern chemical transformations.
  • Purify and characterize organic compounds and intermediates by flash chromatography, HPLC-MS and NMR.
  • Suggest novel molecules with improved biological activity.
  • Support the optimization of compound properties, e.g. potency, solubility, metabolic stability etc.
  • Maintain the highest of professional standards for laboratory safety and record keeping and prepare and effectively communicate results in oral and written form.
  • Contribute to laboratory and project meetings to the success of small molecule drug discovery program.

Qualification & Experience

  • A PhD in Organic Chemistry.
  • You will bring excellent theoretical and practical expertise in synthetic organic chemistry alongside enthusiasm, creativity and problem solving and a strong interest in medicinal chemistry and drug discovery.
  • A track record in the synthesis of biologically relevant molecules and basic experience in medicinal chemistry would be an advantage.
  • Proficient oral and written communication skills in English as well as willingness to adopt a basic command of the German language.

Research Technician – Medicinal Chemistry

Role

Support the Mannin medicinal chemistry team by maintenance of analytical and preparative devices and execution of logistic functions.

Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Maintain devices crucial for the functioning of the medicinal chemistry lab.
  • Support the organic chemists in the execution of synthetic reactions.
  • Oversee and order chemicals and reagents for the medicinal chemistry team.
  • Coordinate solvent and waste management.
  • Manage the chemical storage room.
  • Organize compound management and shipments.
  • Act as a safety manager within the MedChem team.
  • Prepare NMR and MS samples and organize logistics with the University of Leipzig.

Qualification & Experience

  • 3 years of technical training in a chemistry research environment.
  • Experience in the supervised execution of organic reactions would be an advantage.

Scientist I/II Medicinal Chemistry

Role

As a member of the medicinal chemistry team, you will contribute to the success of Mannin small molecule drug discovery programs by the supervised design of new molecules with improved properties, independent synthesis planning and execution of multi-step organic synthesis in the lab.

Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Develop synthetic routes for bioactive small molecules and execute a broad variety of modern organic chemical transformations in the lab.
  • Contribute to the design of novel pharmacologically active molecules.
  • Solve scientific challenges when working with novel small molecules.
  • Analyse project data and communicate findings in project meetings.
  • Enhance Mannin’s operational efficiency and flexibility through continuous improvement of processes in the lab and implementation of best practice.

Senior Scientist Medicinal Chemistry

Role

As a key member of the chemistry team, you will make significant contributions by leading from the bench ensuring delivery of high-quality compound design, synthesis planning and execution.

Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Develop synthetic routes for bioactive small molecules and execute a broad variety of modern organic chemical transformations in the lab.
  • Analyse complex data sets to generate structure-activity relationships and generate hypotheses in the optimization from hit to lead to candidate.
  • Design biologically active compounds and prioritize target compounds and plan, as well as execute their synthesis.
  • Contribute to interdisciplinary, global Mannin research teams with the goal to identify novel drugs.
  • Discuss, present and publish research results internally and externally and demonstrate commitment to ensure a world-class chemistry team.

  • Comprehensive and state of the art knowledge in modern synthetic methodologies as well as a solid understanding of molecular properties.
  • Demonstrated enthusiasm for identifying and solving scientific problems with significant publications in peer-reviewed journals or protection of intellectual property through patents.
  • Successful delivery of results, both independently and in team settings.
  • Proficient oral and written communication skills in English as well as willingness to adopt a basic command of the German language.
